Company Step Challenge
?- The battle of Scandinavia
Before the global Step challenge in April we had our own competition up here in the North.
Företaget i Denmark challenged us in Sweden to collect steps during March.
Why? No one's sure. Everybody "knows" that the Danes are a beer-guzzling and cigarette-smoking kind of people, whereas the Swedes can be described as Volvos, we're reliable and always keep going, some might describe us as boring and, well, people are correct in that observation and for once that served us good.
We organized daily lunch walks; we sent out emails of things to do (go to the gym, spinning etc) and encouraged everyone to move their ass.
To spice up the competition here in Sweden we split the office in different teams, so there were actually two competitions at once. Erik Blomberg's team won, one of the reasons is that he participated in the 90km long Vasaloppet in the beginning of March or to be honest, he only came half-way, then he took the bus to Mora (maybe next year, Erik). The other reason that his team won was because our GM was in his team. It's always a bad career-move to beat your GM.
When we reached the first checkpoint the 11th of March Denmark took an impressive lead and was ahead with a stunning 3500 steps/day. Our management were really worried, but all of us Volvos changed to 2nd gear and we were off walking like we've never done before and by the time we reached the 2nd checkpoint we had not only tied the competition, we'd also passed them. Denmark totally lost momentum between the 1st and the 2nd checkpoint.
The last week of the competition Denmark fought hard to get back in the race and they almost did, but we put the Volvo into 3rd gear and in the end all of our efforts were rewarded and we won with an average of 11448 steps/day against Denmark's 9573 steps/day.
Denmark sent us a beautiful trophy filled with candy and a hope for revenge this Fall. Since some of us ate all of the candy, we'll probably need another step challenge to get in shape again...
Utmana Scweiz kanske?
:-)
Hehe skitbra text. Men det står The company in Denmark eller the danish division i orginalet va?
